On  this page I will place some research updates on the football fan study I ran together with Toon Kuppens (Sociology, VUB, Brussels). We recruited people from thirteen different countries (Ecuador, Argentina, Mexico, USA, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, France, Spain, Costa Rica).

The purpose of our study was multiple. We wanted to look into crosscultural differences of winning/loosing and intergroup behaviour. We are also interested in mood effects on infrahumanization, intergroup emotions and approach/avoidance tendencies ('fight or flight').

For starters, here is a map that shows the nationalities of our respondents (individuals who reached at least page 4 of the survey).

And of course I (and Toon as well of course) wish to thank ALL our participants and internet forums for their participation.

In my spare time, I will compile a list of internet forums we used in order to recruite people to do our study. If you would like your site added or removed, just send me an e-mail.

A link to the debriefing sheet will be placed here shortly. In the meanwhile you can of course email me with any questions you might have.
