‘Hedonistic Histories’ – What is it?

This event formed a part of my master’s project; it was a creative way to present my academic research in a format that interests the general public. The Hedonistic Histories audience was enticed by intoxicating stories, filled with wonder and wine, and tantalised by taxidermies and the stories they tell

The blog and Instagram pages will continue to post regular updates on how the event progressed, when future events will occur, and how you can get involved. Follow them to stay informed!

Hedonistic Histories was the pilot event for the series, which was be held in collaboration with the Great North Museum. The series’ purpose is to demonstrate the need for hedonism to be considered as a historical theme, evidenced by the cultural reproductions apparent across elite cultures. For the purpose of this project, the comparative method is being used to show how hedonistic cultures are replicated across seventeenth-century French Court and nineteenth-century English elite cultures. The legacy of this project aims to create future events to prove other cultural reproductions within hedonistic tendencies of the elite. This research is focussed on the aforementioned comparison, but academics or historically interested individuals are encouraged to consider other hedonistic cultural reproductions across all societies and time periods

Will there be more events?

Yes! I am currently working with the GNM again to produce a Hedonistic Histories room and stall at the Being Human Festival in November. All information relating to this will be updated on the website and social media pages.
