Academic Background

Chuang Song is currently a PhD student in Geomatics group, School of Engineering, Newcastle University, supervised by Prof. Zhenhong Li, Prof. Stefano Utili and Dr Nigel Penna.

He completed his Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Geomatics Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University, China (2015). The subject of his graduation thesis is the analysis of surface motion characteristics in strong earthquakes using high-rate GPS. After that he pursued the Master of Science (MSc) in Geodesy and Engineering Surveying at Wuhan University under the guidance of Prof. Caijun Xu from 2015 to 2018. The research project during his master study is “Study on earthquake warning magnitude using high-rate GPS and strong seismograph”. From the study he mastered GPS data processing methods and essential knowledge in seismology. He also explored the optimum combination method of high-rate GPS and strong motion data, and the InSAR data processing strategy.
